Circle of the Volcano

The ancient ashlander culture of the Dark Elves reveres the volcanoes that dot the landscape of Chardenfell. While druids are quite a rare sight nowadays in Chardenfell, there are some who still keep the old ways of connection with the land and magic. Though it has become nearly unheard of for them to leave their enclaves anymore.

Restriction: Only Dark Elves should take this subclass unless there is a really good reason otherwise.

Level 3: Volcanic Circle Spells

In your list and always prepared:

  • Druid Level 1: Hellish Rebuke, Burning Hands
  • Druid Level 3: Flame Blade, Scorching Ray
  • Druid Level 5: Fireball, Plant Growth
  • Druid Level 7: Fire Shield, Wall of Fire
  • Druid Level 9: Cloudkill, Wall of Stone

Level 3: Harbinger of Devastation

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill. In addition, you learn the Produce Flame cantrip and you may add you Wisdom modifier to the damage dealt by it. This does not count against your number of cantrips known.

Level 3: Volcanic Rage

You gain the ability to embrace the primordial force of the volcano. As a bonus action, you can expend one use of your Wild Shape feature to manifest a 15-foot radius Emanation centered on yourself that takes the form of volcanic activity - i.e. rumbling and quaking earth, lava splattering and fumaroles - and is difficult terrain for your enemies. The Emanation lasts for 10 minutes and ends early if you dismiss it (no action required), manifest it again or have the Incapacitated condition.

When you manifest the Emanation and as a bonus action on your subsequent turns, you can create a lava fountain within the area. The lava fountain is a 5-foot diameter, 20-foot high cylinder. Each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, it takes Fire damage equal to your Wisdom modifier plus your Druid level and falls Prone if it is Size large or smaller.

Level 6: Primordial Wrath

At 6th level, when you roll Fire or Bludgeoning damage for a druid spell while your Volcanic Rage is active, you gain a bonus equal to your Wisdom modifier to the roll.

Level 6: Revelation in Desolation

Your body has adapted itself to the inhospitable environment created by volcanic eruptions. You gain resistance to Fire and Poison damage and you have advantage on saving throws made to avoid or end the Poisoned condition.

Level 10: Volcanic Awakening

When you use Volcanic Rage, the Emanation's radius increases to 30 feet, and when you create a lava fountain, you can now instead create two fountains at once.

Level 14: Cataclysmic Eruption

You learn how to unleash the unparalleled elemental violence of a volcanic eruption. When you cast a spell that deals Fire or Bludgeoning damage while your Volcanic Rage is active, you can turn it into a cataclysmic eruption. When you do so, the spell deals maximum damage, ignores Resistances and if it affects an area, the area's dimensions are doubled in all directions. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again until you complete a long rest.
